There was once a 3 fishes in the vast ocean who knew each other well. These 3 fishes were Matt, Nick and lastly Ol’ Fred. They would swim together every day and hang out on the reef. They conversed about various topics and did many things together.
One day, the taboo topic was raised by innocent Nick. He wondered about what would happen when each one of them died.
How would they end up?
And in what fashion would they die?
Would they die or old age?
Or be eaten?
Ol’ Fred being the oldest said, “I’ve lived this long so I think I may just rot away in a corner when my time comes. I’d like to die in the lush seaweed fields on the white sand bed.”
Matt then answers, “Since I’ve groomed myself to be such a beautiful and big fella, I’d like my beauty to be displayed.”
Ol’ Fred and Matt then turn to look at Nick awaiting his answer.
Nick puts his right pectoral fin under his chin and assumes a thinking pose. (Not that fishes have chins mind you.) He ponders deeply on his preference.
After a while… Nick answers, “I’m a young (inexperienced) and small fish. However I have been told that I am cute. But I surely would not like to be eaten or to rot away – forgotten. I’d prefer to end up like Matt when my time comes.”
A few days later, there was news that a fishermen had been fishing for many days but he was unlike any other fisherman. Why? For he did not keep all the biggest nor the smallest catch. Neither did he keep the tastie
st nor the colourful. Hearing this, the 3 friends began to curiously speculate what kind of a fisherman he was.
Suddenly, Ol’ Fred exclaims, “I have heard of this kind of fisherman! He catches and keeps only certain fish for his collection! However, its an old rumour.”
Matt’s face lights up. Smillingly he says, “Well my friends, I am going to give it a try. Maybe I will achieve my prefered ending. Been nice knowing you.” Before anyone can stop him, he then swims off and attaches himself to the fisherman’s hook. Matt is whisked out of the water and is never to be seen again.
Ol’ Fred then thinks of his lonely death and being forgotten. He then waves goodbye to Nick and says, “I may as well try for an ending like Matt. My first choice is too lonely. I have lived this long also. Take care Nick.” Ol’ Fred swims and attaches himself to the fisherman’s hook and is fished outta the water.
Lonely Nick then ponders on what he would do since all his friends are now gone. Should he check if the 2 are really taken and kept by the fisherman? He then nods to himself and musters up the courage. Nick swims from the reef and attached himself to the hook.
Wanna know how Matt, Nick and Ol’ Fred ended up?
