Malaysia – An Update

It’s only the 2nd week of 2010 and yet Msia is again hot in the middle of a fiasco. We’ve hit international headlines on every level for quite a while now and this year has started of with little difference.

The MACC (Malaysian Anti Corruption Committee Commission) has had its reputation as a supposed ‘neutral’ party shattered. They’re now facing murder charges for the murder of Teoh Beng Hock. Rather than fight the fair fight (but then again everything about this country isn’t fair), the MACC lodge a report against Dr. Pornthip. Dr. Pornthip is definitely more qualified than any of the bozos in this country hands down.

Then we have a flood of letters to the editor and articles which were published in the local newspaper complaining about the island state. The local newspapers were supposed to have been ‘sold’ to other parties who supposedly have no link to the previous owners who were BN, MCA, etc. But from what I see and read, the newspaper remains a tool of executing and inflicting wounds.

The stolen Jet Engines is another laughable occurrence. How can the damned MACC make us believe that only 2 persons stole a pair of jet engines! It is totally absurd. Like how these ppl say it and how I think it. A jet engine is huge and heavy, it is impossible that a businessman and an air-force personnel are able to move them undetected. Maybe these men are descendants of Hercules? The whole army is corrupt along-with the beautiful government who has Najib at the helm. The engines were stolen months ago and it took them about 4 months b4 the army decided to report the theft! Do you turn up at 9.45pm when your flight is clearly at 7.30am?! They’re supposedly to have been sold to a party in Argentina.

Then we have the latest thing which takes the cake and revolves around the word Allah. The Herald used the word Allah and was reprimanded. The court told the Roman Catholic body that they could use it; because of that the government and all the fanatics jump on the band wagon to appeal the decision. Firstly, the government is supposed to be a ‘neutral’ body as well but why are they behaving with such immaturity? Since when was a word sanctioned for only one group’s use? Islam is not the oldest religion in the world. Besides, did anyone know that Hindus and Christians have been using the word Allah way b4 Prophet Muhammad founded Islam?

Those on the bandwagon have done the outright genius thing of torching some churches. I got news that cars who had any Christian decorations like car stickers were badly vandalised in Bangsar. Only one group has put a severed cow’s head on the front of a Hindu Temple alongside the above act. Non-Malays have not gone to splash public areas and mosques with pigs blood so why are they behaving as such? It makes no sense. Plus tonight, all the mosques are holding ceramahs or public talks on the topic.

I do wonder which scapegoat will they select to take the wrap. Personally, I think that a few instigated the whole thing but the real guys will never be sacrificed as they’re too useful. Will ISA apply to these ppl? If no action is taken then it sends a message that it is alright for anyone to desecrate any place of worship.

I would certainly like some explanation as to why the top guy, Najib, used the damned slogan of 1 Malaysia. To many of us, it is not 1 Malaysia but rather 1 Malay(sia) – 1 Religion, 1 People, 1 Race. Do not forget that our last PM, Pak Lah, who’s grandfather was a CHINESE MUSLIM from Hainan Island, China. Few Malays in this country can truly claim they’re pure Malays. In truth, their lineage is one big melting pot. Why is it that this country claims itself to be a democracy and a peaceful multicultural nation BUT discriminates heavily?!

Democracy is dead in Malaysia and will be replaced by dictatorial rule. Msia is now the laughing stock of the world. Many FDIs are reluctant to come into Msia coz of the useless current BN government. They’re heading to Vietnam and even Indonesia which was once shunned but is now rising to the occasion faster than Msia is. Analysts have more confidence in the Rupiah than they do the Ringgit. This country is going to the dogs! Be prepared for a potential May 13.

Complicated Malaysian taste-buds

Many have asked me about why don’t I start my own F&B outlet. These ppl know I love cooking, have experience at it and my brain works naturally toward the built-up of a recipe/dish. P/s my brain doesn’t work naturally nor fast when it comes to most jobs I’ve handled.

Yes, so why don’t I open an outlet? The answer I give is always the same,”Malaysians do not really appreciate food. They tend to put chilli sauce or some kind of sauce on their food b4 even tasting it. You insult the chef when u to do that to food that has been well-prepared.” After my answer, I get 3 reactions. -

  1. Silence.
  2. Agreement to my perspective.
  3. A suggestion to educate Malaysian taste-buds.

Honestly, I don’t even get the same respect from my own family when I cook either. My sister is the incessant tomato sauce addict who needs to have tomato sauce with all her western meals (she is beyond redemption). My eldest bro – chilli sauce or no salt. My 2nd bro – cranberry sauce. My parents – any sauce that is available. Let me give u some real life examples, where food laws have been violated, which I have personally experienced.

  • At Subway,  asking for every available sauce to be put onto the sandwich.
  • At Pizza Hut, putting parmesan cheese into the soup with another person putting soup on the pizza.
  • At Coffee Bean, unscrewing the chocolate duster and emptying it into a hot chocolate.
  • At Western food hawker places – tartare and thousand island sauce onto everything.

It is repulsive to eat with so much sauce. Why can’t ppl eat food as how it is prepared? The only thing that should be added is salt and/or pepper coz anything else makes the dish lose its identity. Most do not know how to enjoy food naturally anymore.

I mean there are certain cases where it is proper for sauce to be added i.e. tomato sauce on fries and burgers, sambal on fried rice, mint sauce with lamb, cranberry with turkey, etc. But this rule has been tossed into the bin. No one adheres to it.

When I typically ask anyone about French cuisine and their thoughts on it, they automatically say its  not nice to eat coz it’s tasteless. French cuisine is light flavoured and not robust like how we are used to in Malaysia but that doesn’t mean that its not nice.

Many Msians have ‘ruined’ and ‘scarred’ their taste-buds to an extent that they’ve lost their ability to taste light, aromatic flavours. We are part of the fusion cuisine circle but we lack the ability for  intricate taste-buds. There are many self-professed foodies and food blogs out there but how many are able to eat/taste properly?

Also, I have found that many Msians that I have met are starting to refuse to eat foods outside their normal regime. There is also another problem which I have found, certain Msians have problems distinguishing cuisine types i.e. some think that Old Town White Coffee serves Nyonya food.

I applaud those proprietors who do not offer any tomato or chilli sauce with their meals but only Salt and Pepper. I also applaud those ppl who really enjoy food as it is.

The Silly Lala-chick

One fine evening, Kitty and I went to my nearby Coffee Bean for a drink as we’d do quite often. Seeing that our fren wasn’t working, we just ordered our drinks and I went over to sit whilst Kitty waited to collect our drinks. Then lo and behold, a lone and vertically challenged Lala-chick broke away from the small Lala and Sotong colony (outside) to come in. She carried with her a large glass filled with latte which she placed back at the collection counter.

Vertically Challenged Lala-chick: Excuse me. (In a very fren fren manner)

Coffee Bean Staff: Yes?

VCLC: I took a sip of this drink and I don’t like the flavour… Can u change it?

CBS: Huh?! *looks blurly at her*

VCLC: *she rewinds her tape and repeats the sentence*

CBS: *Keeps looking at her blurly* What do u mean?

VCLC: I mean can you change it? I don’t like it.

CBS: Ummm…..

VCLC: Can I order something else and then I just pay a little bit extra for it?

CBS: Ummm…. Not sure….

VCLC: Can right….! Ok, what should I order?

CBS: What sort of flavours would you like?

VCLC: Something like not too strong but I don’t want too light flavoured also. But hor…. I want a hot wan like this. *points to her rejected latte which is probably wondering what it did wrong to be rejected in such a manner*

CBS: How bout a Vanilla Latte?

VCLC: Ok! How much extra you want me to pay?

CBS: What size? Regular?

VCLC: Regular-lah… Umm… Wait! I think make it large lah…

CBS: Ok. The total comes to $$$$

VCLC settles the payment and the transaction is completed.

VCLC: Can u split it into 2 small glasses? I am sharing with my fren (she means her pervy looking bf). I don’t have to pay extra for that, right?

CBS: *Looks at VCLC blurily again and turns to superior who is an Mgmt Trainee*

CBMT: Just do for her lah….

VCLC: *tries to act cute* Ok! Thank you! U can send it to me, right? Or do I have to wait here?

CBMT: Miss, we will send it to u. Pls take a seat.

VCLC walks out and rejoins her tribe.

CBMT: Buat problem saja orang macam ni. Ok la. Buat bagi dia 2 small.

Our drinks got held up due to this epic conversation. Finally got our drinks and I looked out the window, the Lala and Sotong tribe has expanded from 3 to 7. Must be mitosis happening here. They join 3 tables, get several cups of water and start to play cards. 7 humanoids but only 2 orders of drinks. I look on other side, a group of 5 borderline Lala girls but 5 drinks who are smoking and also playing cards .Sigh…

Lizzy: If our fren here, that VCLC will kena kow kow already and tell her to complain kat www.coffeebean.com.my if she don’t like.

Kitty: Yup. We should tell her when we see her next time. We should tell the Lala and Sotong tribe that they’re in the wrong place.

Lizzy: They’re in the wrong place?

Kitty: They lost coz Subaidah (Mamak) is not here but down the road only. Classless ppl like this belong there.

I find that the ugly Malaysian is stemming itself everywhere. Its becoming a disease which I would give every penny I have to find a cure for this annoyance. They seem to lack any decency or manners and most of all common sense. I loathe these ppl but at the same time pity them.

I once saw 3 ladies in their 50s and 60s sharing a small hot chocolate. Guess what they did? They took the can of cocoa powder from the sugar/straw side counter to their table. Then proceeded to unscrew the whole can and empty it into their small glass and tried to stir it in. They only stopped coz I was giving them that look but when I turned away, they continued also.

What is the world coming to? Young and old ppl are become annoying ugly Malaysians. I should get a license to shoot ppl like these to make space in the world and preserve our limited resources.
